Study of Mammoth Hot Springs
5×8″
This summer is my last summer for working on my Masters of Art Education degree.
Yeah!
At the end of last summer I finally figured out what I wanted to do for my thesis project. I have wanted to paint Yellowstone National Park for many years and decided that now was the time. My family has had countless holidays to the park and I feel like through all the moving around, it has been a constant in my life.
This past year, I have worked on painting memories of the park and discovering what about this region inspires me .
This study of Mammoth Hot Springs is one such memory.
It is from a time where my parents took me and my children (who were small at the time) to visit the springs.
Although it was a cloudy, overcast day, it was wonderful to be there and I was extremely camera happy.
Along with the melting ice cream cones and the lounging elk, we saw a small original Thomas Moran watercolor almost hidden away inside the museum.
I have beautiful memories of Yellowstone park too ! I like your study and all the best with your thesis ! Look forward to seeing them!
This is really stunning, with the colors and the texture of the mountains. I'd love to go there and see it in all the glowing grandeur that you've portrayed. Well done!
Thank you Leslie, for the inspiring workshop you presented in the Comox Valley a few weeks ago. I depart for my first trip to Yellowstone in a few days – a 3000 mile trek through Oregon, Wyoming and Montana, then back home through Idaho and Wahington . My paint box is packed -your inspiration has been a gift!
Thank you Meera! I am excited to be done with it.
Katherine, Yellowstone is such and ispiration! I love trying to capture all the textures of the earth.
Lynn, you lucky girl! You will have a fabulous time. Be sure to take lots of photos to paint from as well as doing a little plein air.
Great memories, Leslie! :) Have a great time at school!!
Wow! Your last year for your Masters, that has gone fast. Good luck with your final projects.
Thank you Kathryn and Wendy! I am getting soooo excited for it. And a little nervous. I procrastinated the work and now I will be burning the midnight oil.
