My heart is sad and my head is spinning. Yet I am excited all at the same time! My husband accepted a position at a company in Vancouver, BC. That means that we are moving from Victoria and the island soon.
Moving here 4 1/2 years ago from Boston was the hardest thing I had ever done. The first 2 years were a nightmare not because of the place but because of several things that happened in my personal life. There were too many big changes at once. Then I started to paint and teach again. My position at the Monterey Centre was literally an answer to my prayers. I am still amazed by how it happened. Since then, I have come to love this place and the people. I have met so many amazing people and feel blessed by my associations. It will be difficult to leave.
However, we are happy that my husband has found steady work and has been offered a great position with an architectural firm. Yeah! It will be hard for me to start over and to build all new clientele in Vancouver. It will also be hard for our children to move from their friends and such a great neighborhood. I know that it will work out in time and it is for the best. I am excited by the prospect of new opportunities.
In the meantime, I will continue to teach at the Monterey Centre in January and I will be back on the island to conduct workshops.
Leslie, Congratulations!! I know it will be hard and a major adjustment but life is really all about the adventure. My husband is in the military so we move every 18 mos to 3 years. I have learned to find a house, get in and get the whole thing painted and unpacked within a month. I look at it as a challenge. It's a fresh start, onto the next chapter:)
Good luck Leslie. Know how difficult it is for a major transition, but sure it will be a wonderful opportunity!
Know your art will grow in leaps and bounds and so many more people will get to appreciate it first hand.
Carrie and Susan, thank you for your comforting and encouraging words. I am looking forward to a fresh start in so many ways.
I loved Victoria when I visited but found Vancouver to be a bit too hustle-bustle for me. But just think of all the avenues for your art there will be there!!!
Leslie, change is indeed very difficult. However, you are moving to another beautiful city and moving for a great reason. Your clientele will not abandon you!
I love the buzz of the city but it will be hard to go back to the driving commute. Victoria is great because everything can be found within a 15 min drive or you walk. I am excited about all the art possibilities though.
wish you all the best with your move :) You will be opening new doors!
We just visited Victoria and Vancouver for the first time last summer. I was very impressed by both. I usually don't like big cities but Vancouver is the coolest big city I've ever visited. Good luck with the move and I'm sure you will be very successful there with your art.
Thank you Meera and Nancy. You make me feel better about the big move.
