The Guardian
watercolor
24×36″
This painting is of a beautiful arbutus tree in Brentwood Bay on Vancouver Island. It seems to stand guard on the edge of the bay, ever watchful, as if it is protecting those that live close to the bay.
Because of it’s majestic beauty and size, I chose to paint it larger than I usually paint. Arbutus trees have a lovely reddish color to the bark. I had recently purchased Daniel Smith’s Quinacridone Sienna on a whim and glad I had done so. It was the perfect color!
The details in your work just amaze me. Great job.
Leslie, this is simply exquisite!
I love the color choices, and such detail.. Beautiful work.
fondly,
Penny
What a beautiful painting, Leslie!!! To me, it looks like you have taken another step forward in your work with this work. That noble and elegant cypress standing before the serene background of the bay creates such a striking painting! Love it!!!

Penny, you are so wonderful to comment. I hope I get to meet you someday.
Kathryn, thank you. As you know, I needed a guardian this past week, and I received many as they watched over and cared for me.
Renee, thank you! I love your blog, your art, and your energy! I look forward to getting to know your work better.
